Background of what is happening in Lebanon during the pandemic:

Lebanon hosts the highest number of refugees per capita in the world. Today, one in four people in Lebanon is a refugee. Since the conflict in Syria started more the 1 million Syrians fled to Lebanon. However, what makes Lebanon different, is the crippling economy that can barely sustain itself. In addition to recent major changes in world economics and a national uprising in Lebanon, the economic situation of refugees has hit rock bottom.

Arbutary curfews and limited mobility is nothing new to Syrian refugees in Lebanon but when the coronavirus pandemic began in mid-march, the Lebanese government announced further limitations. Since most Syrians in Lebanon work as day laborers in the construction, agricultural or janitorial sectors, their incomes have been put on hold as a result of the pandemic, however, with no alternatives to finance themselves. The overall situation in Lebanon forces Syrian refugees to be more scared of starvation than COVID 19.
